About The Artist
James Darum recollects for us through a creative intelligence that jars our souls. His art depicts the western figure from the Native American to the Cowboy and their unique relationship to their world and the earth. The squaw who has weaved her life into her blanket, the brave who oversee's and is a part of the land and the cowboy who as weathered the changing times.

James' paintings are not landscapes but it is there. There is a touch of reality and yet fantisy. The desert and the mountains are etched in quiet dignity in the faces that sometimes hide or gaze away from us. The bold, graphic expressions elict what should be rather than what is. In visual power and force of statement, the Navaho blanket represents a high point in the history of the Native American. The cowboy's hat has sheltered him from the elements.

James Darum was born in Evansville, Indiana in 1942. He moved to Phoenix with his family in 1957, where he finished high school. He later moved to Flagstaff where he attended Northern Arizona University majoring in commercial art. James' art has evolved over the past twenty years. Beginning as an illustrator, James moved on to watercolors and later, his present medium, acrylics. His vision has changed over the years as he has matured.

James oversee's all of his creations. The true craftmanship from stretching his own canvas to making his frames, showing his total concern. "I know that I appreciate good judgment, and the extra care I take will be important to both me and the buyer. I am sure that the buyer will appreciate that all of me is going into the painting."

James also enjoys working on murals.
